AJ PROFILE PIC-100.jpg

I completed my Master of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy) in 2017, through the University of Sydney. I trained in the Conversational Model developed by Russell Meares, a therapeutic approach incorporating ideas from self-psychology, intersubjectivity, development, attachment and trauma theory, as well as drawing on current research in memory and neuroscience. My own research focused on the relationship between dreams, gender and trauma. I also received training through the Jansen Newman Institute (Masters Counselling & Applied Psychotherapy) where I specialized in psychodynamic therapy.

As a registered Clinical Member of PACFA (the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), I adhere to a professional code of ethics, and receive regular supervision. I also engage in ongoing professional development activities, as a Member of the International Association of Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy (IARPP).

I’ve worked as an academic lecturer, teaching psychoanalytic theory, as well as gender studies and queer theory. I’ve presented academic papers at local and international conferences and workshops, and I’ve written book chapters in several edited collections. I was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, and held fellowships through the New York Public Library, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Sydney. I completed my PhD research at Harvard University.

I’ve worked in the mental health field for almost two decades, providing psychological support through organisations such as ACON, Cancer Council NSW, Lifeline, Wesley Hospital Ashfield, Victims Support Services and the Ankali Project. I’ve also worked as a pro bono psychodynamic counsellor through the Mandala Community Counselling Service.
